10-Day Hoof Groom Certification Course

Please Note: The 10-day Hoof Groom Certification Course may be split up into two 5-day courses in some locations.

General Description:

The Hoof Groom Course is a ten-day immersion into hoof care. It is designed to provide students with the skills required to consistently perform a physiologically correct trim on non-pathological hooves.

The Hoof Groom Course is the prerequisite for the Certified Hoof Technician Course, which delves into pathology and manipulation of the trim to correct aberrant hoof form and to maximize performance. The Hoof Groom Course will begin on a Friday morning and continue through the following weekend, ending on Sunday afternoon for a total of ten consecutive days.

Topics and Activities:
Through lecture, demonstration, dissection, discussion and critiques, students will learn:

  • Hoof care theory and history
  • Support for the natural hoof
  • Anatomy and physiology of the hoof
  • Mapping the hoof
  • Physiologically correct trimming
  • Natural horse handling and management
Prerequisites:
Applicants should have successful completed
a two-day clinic with Martha Olivo. If you have questions, contact us at info@marthaolivo.com

Class Size:
Hoof Groom Course is a hands-on class limited to fifteen (15) participants.

United Horsemanship retains the right to cancel the scheduled clinic should registration fail to meet minimum numbers. In this event United Horsemanship will refund 100% of the enrollee's deposit.

Fee Schedule:
The fee for the ten-day course is $1,100.
A deposit if 50% ($550.00) is due upon application. Payment must be made by check, money order, or credit card. No cash will be accepted. Contact the clinic host to apply.

Deposits must be received a minimum of 90 days prior to the scheduled course date. The balance (if the course has not been paid in full) must be received 30 days prior to the scheduled class date.

Cancellation and Refund Policy:
Due to the limited class size and materials cost, if you cancel UP TO 30 days prior to the starting date of the class, one-half of your deposit will be forfeited. If you cancel WITHIN 30 days prior to the start date, your entire deposit will be forfeited.

In the event that United Horsemanship cancels the class, your deposit will be refunded in full.

Tools:
Students must bring their own tools or purchase them at the clinic; let the clinic host know in advance if you will need to purchase tools and what tools you need. Tools used in class include hoof knives, sharpeners, rasps, nippers, and rubberized gloves.

Accommodations:
All accommodations will be the responsibility of the student. A list of hotels, campsites, and/or host families will be provided upon application.
