Differences Between Natural Hoofcare Courses

Q: "Hi, I'm interested in learning natural hoof care for horses, and, as I'm just
starting out, would like to know the essential differences between the techniques
you teach at United Horsemanship, and what I would learn through a Strasser or
Jackson program. Are they simply different presentations of the same basic
procedures, or are there more substantive distinctions involved? Thanks for
any help you can offer. -William M."
A: "Hello, William! Thank you for your interest in learning more about natural
hoof care. I cannot tell you what you might learn through Jackson's course, as I have
not been through it. Dr. Strasser's course is an eight month long correspondence course
for hoof care specialists based on study of her books, several hoof trimming "practicums"
and accompanying written tests, and a final hands-on trimming and written examination.
"The United Horsemanship Hoof Groom Course is an affordable 10 days of group hoof dissection and
live horse trimming. This course is based on understanding hoof anatomy and the hoof's function
as a diaphragm pump. The self-paced flexible format allows students time, space and guidence to
develop the confidence and skills needed to care for their horse's hooves. This convenient course
also gives farriers, veterinarians and other equine maintenence and health care providers the
information they need to provide top quality service for their clients. Students receive on-line
support from myself and other U.H. Hoof Grooms.
"The U.H. Hoof Groom Course is also the prerequisite for the future Hoof Technician Course. The
term "Hoof Technician" refers to the emerging field of hoof care professionals who deal exclusively
with the more naturally kept equine. U.H. Hoof Technicians will be required to practice humane equine
handling techniques, and will be well versed in sharing natural equine management information.
U.H. Hoof Technicians will have the endorsement and support of United Horsemanship, as do the Hoof
Grooms.
"The U.H. Hoof Groom Course differs from others in its local availability. I am personally committed
to providing this valuable information wherever the demand is greatest, and I come to the students."
