He's Sound!
Success Story sent in by Cheryl Naborly

A year and half ago I found Gretchen's web site, and thus Martha. At the time my daughter's pony was use able only with limited riding on soft ground and things were beginning to deteriorate--less riding and more time off with each year. This was not an old pony--he was 13 yrs young and unable to play with his friends in the pasture or be ridden without the price of pain. The vets said it was his shoulder, and yes, that did hurt, but from my past experience with other navicular, ringbone and sidebone horses, I kept feeling it was a foot problem.

So after reading Gretchen's site and all of the posts on this list I went to one of Martha's clinics. What an education. I also had Martha trim this pony, who was sound at the time--I thought. He walked away from that trim better than he had walked in years and had a softness in his stride I had forgotten was there. Martha said it would be at least 2 yrs before his feet would decontract. Well, in just over 1 year we have had him sound to do the job he and my daughter love, eventing. His feet do have a little more decontracting to do, but HE IS SOUND and has been all summer.

I was afraid to write sooner, as it might jinx the summer they have had, and it was a great one. Jumper shows last winter and 6 events this spring and summer--never an off step, and always in the ribbons. In 6 events he was 2nd 4 times, 3rd once and 4th once--not bad for a 13.2 hand pony competing against TBs, warmbloods, Qtr. horses and any breed you can think of. Thank all of you for this wonderful list that has given this horse his lifetime of soundness and my daughter a summer of memories that will last a lifetime. To Martha words can not possibly thank you enough for your help and support that has given this pony his life back.

Thank you
Cheryl
