Today we are regarding our horses (mules, donkeys, etc.) more and more as partners, even friends, rather than physio-mechanical toys or tools. Those of us who have sought to strengthen the "partnership" connection understand that removing obstacles to communication between horses and humans results in more responsive and healthier horses.

We provide the best feed, tack and shelter that we can, in hopes of enjoying our horses fully. Many of us, though we strive for the highest standard, still find our horses not quite "with" us, due to behavior and health problems. Poor performance and lameness plague us, manifesting an attitude problems, lethargy, hoof problems, sore backs and the like. The symptoms of these problems are often treated as behavior or health issues without regard to the root causes.

Please, consider this: Consider the true nature of the horse, especially when dealing with poor attitude and lameness. Horses thrive without interference from man in open spaces with other horses for companionship and something to eat and do all day. Ask yourself: "Does my horse have these elements in its life?" Horses suffer chronic, frequently undiagnosed lameness, when the cause of the problem is not bad shoeing, but shoeing, period. Simply acknowledging the damage done by nailing or gluing appliances to the hooves of horses begins the biggest leap humans can make to establish health and comfort for our equine partners.

United Horsemanship is an organization formed to support domestic horses and their stewards in the effort to achieve more natural balance in their lives. By providing education and services, it is the mission of UH to bridge the gap between traditional horsemanship and a healthier, more satisfying way of engaging with our horses.

On behalf of the horse, thank you for joining the growing number of horse people who choose partnership over mindless ego-based use of the horse. The answers to your questions, the keys to true unity between horse and man, lie in recognizing the true nature of the horse.

United Horsemanship invites you to join us as members to provide solidarity on behalf of millions of horses here in the United States, and around the world.
